Vol. 28 No. 10

Written Answers. - River Robe Flooding.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the lands along the River Robe, between Brickens and Castle Macgarrett, are constantly flooded; that the owners of the lands suffer considerable loss to their crops every year through floods; that the flooding is mostly caused by large trees which have fallen into, and across, the river in Castle Macgarrett Demesne, and if he can take any steps to have the obstructions removed during the coming summer.

The Commissioners of Public Works are aware that considerable flooding takes place on the lands that adjoin the River Robe on the section between Brickeens and Castle Macgarrett, and they are advised that fallen timber is a contributory cause of the flooding. The river in question was the subject of a petition under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, and an engineer is at present making a survey of the proposed district. Until a drainage scheme has been prepared, submitted to the votes of the occupiers and confirmed, no works can be executed.
