Vol. 29 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Post Office Administration.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will circulate to Deputies a statement giving the available details relating to the working of his Department during the years 1927-28 and 1928-29 before the Estimate for the Department arises for discussion in the Dáil.

The Deputy does not make quite clear what details he wishes circulated. If he refers to statistical tables usually incorporated in the opening Estimates statement, it should be pointed out that these are not standardised sets of figures but are selected as being considered useful as an illustration of the points dealt with in the statement and which frequently would not be informative in the absence of the context.

It is presumed the Deputy does not expect the very unusual course to be followed of circulating the Estimate statement in full previous to the discussion, and it does not appear, therefore, that any useful purpose would be served by issuing isolated sets of figures apart from their context.

If, however, there are any specific details or statistics which the Deputy wants and which are available, we will endeavour to furnish them on request.
