Vol. 29 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision for Widows and Orphans.

Domhnall O Muirgheasa

asked the President whether the Executive Council has completed the consideration of the subject of provisions for widows and orphans requested by the Dáil in the resolution adopted in November, 1928; whether it is intended to present any report to the Dáil, and, if so, when the report may be expected.

The consideration of the subject of provision of pensions for widows and orphans cannot be usefully undertaken by the Executive Council until the actuarial investigation which has been in hands for some time has been completed. For the purpose of this investigation the Actuary has requested, inter alia, that certain sets of figures should be extracted from the latest census returns. The extraction of these figures involves a very considerable amount of time and trouble. When the results of the actuarial investigation have been examined by the Departments concerned and by the Executive Council, the views of the Government on the whole question will be communicated to the Dáil.
