Vol. 29 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - De-Rating of Agricultural Land.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received any proposals for financing a de-rating scheme for agricultural land from the General Council of County Councils; if he considered these proposals feasible, and, if so, whether he will state when he intends putting them into operation, and, if not, whether he has prepared any alternative proposals, and when he intends putting these proposals before the Dáil.

A deputation from the General Council of County Councils submitted to me in February last, in connection with the general question of relieving agricultural land from liability for local rates, certain proposals under which it was claimed that the necessary revenue could be raised, but I did not consider these proposals acceptable. With regard to the last paragraph of the question I would refer the Deputy to my Budget statement.

Does that mean that the Minister is not going to introduce any de-rating proposals this year?

Not this year.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the answer, I wish to give notice that I shall raise the matter on the adjournment.
