Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Detention of Bookmakers.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) how many bookmakers are at present detained in the Saorstát prisons arising out of overholding of Betting Duty; (b) the amount of duty due the Revenue Commissioners in each case; (c) the amount of the fine imposed in each case; and (d) the duration of confinement in each case to date.

The particulars required by the Deputy, set out according to the headings in the question, are as follows:—

(a) Two.

(b) £282 8s. 8d. and £27 8s. 1d.

(c) £500 and £500 (mitigated by the District Justice to £125).

(d) 51 days and 36 days.

The first items and the second items under the headings (b) (c) and (d) correspond.
