Vol. 31 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Inland Fisheries and Rates.

asked the Minister for Land and Fisheries whether he will state the total valuation of the inland fisheries in the Saorstát on which rates are assessed; at what date was that valuation made; whether any machinery exists for changing the valuation; whether the existing valuation is equitable relative to other rateable property, and whether he will further state the total rates collectable on account of such fisheries for any recent financial year.

The total valuation of fisheries in rivers and their estuaries in the Saorstát on which rates are assessed is £23,970.

The valuations are revised from time to time on the application of the local fishery authority and of my Department, by whom the lists are reviewed annually. The valuations are made by the Valuation Office, which deals with the valuation of property generally, and there is no reason for believing that there is any inequality between the valuations of fisheries and of other properties.

The rates collectable in the fishery year now current amount to £13,900.
