Vol. 32 No. 8

Written Answers. - Dáil Eireann Loan Repayments.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will state the reason for delay in issuing Savings Certificates to Michael Riordan, Killeen, Ballylanders, Co. Limerick, who subscribed £25 to Dáil Eireann Loan (1919-1920).

Mr. O'Riordan's application for repayment in respect of an amount of £25 stated to have been subscribed by him to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan is one of a number received from persons in County Limerick which are under consideration. During the period in which the primary register of subscribers to the loan was compiled no particulars of a subscription by Mr. O'Riordan were furnished to the Dáil Department of Finance. On the 26th June, 1928, a request was addressed to Mr. O'Riordan's solicitor for a statement by the collector to whom the subscription was stated to have been paid; on the same date a communication was also addressed to the collector himself asking for the original list of subscriptions collected by him for this loan. No reply to either of these communications has been received.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he has received repeated applications for a return of Dáil Eireann Loan subscriptions from Michael J. Fortune, Slade, Fethard, Co. Wexford, and whether he intends to authorise payment at an early date.

Only one application for repayment was received from Mr. Michael J. Fortune, and the particulars contained therein did not correspond with those of an entry in the records in my Department. The discrepancies have now been cleared up and authority to issue a Savings Certificate, which will enable Mr. Fortune to obtain repayment in respect of his subscription to the Dáil Eireann Internal Loan will be given to the Accountant, Department of Posts and Telegraphs, at an early date.
