Vol. 32 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Injury to a Horse.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to pay compensation to Joseph McKeogh, Inchamore, Killaloe, whose horse was injured by becoming entangled in the supports of an electric standard situated on his land, and if the Minister will take the necessary steps to provide against similar accidents by having such supports plated to a certain distance from the ground.

Mr. Hogan

I have no liability for, nor any power to pay compensation in respect of, accidents attributed to poles after their erection in accordance with the Shannon Electricity Act, 1925. The cost of plating such poles in the manner suggested would be so excessive in comparison with any risk of accident that I would not feel justified in adopting the suggestion. If any private occupier desires to take special measures of the kind to protect his live stock no objection will be raised on condition that the purpose for which the pole has been erected is not thereby interfered with.
