Vol. 32 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Civil Service Promotion.

asked the Minister for Finance whether anything has yet been done to give effect to his promise that an opportunity of advancement would be afforded to writing assistants as a first step to the removal of the ban on promotion in the Civil Service.

The application of a system of promotion for members of a class common to all departments of the Civil Service requires the working out of machinery by which the persons who are best entitled to be promoted can be selected. A scheme for this purpose, in the case of the writing assistant class, which I hope will be completed at an early date, is at present under consideration.
