Vol. 33 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Upkeep of Cemeteries.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health what steps he proposes to take in the matter of old and little used cemeteries, which are not vested in the Local Authority, to keep them in a state of decency.

The matter raised in the Deputy's question is one to be dealt with by the Burial Board of each administrative area under the powers conferred by Sections 185 to 187 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878, which appear to afford adequate machinery for keeping burial grounds not already vested in the Burial Board sufficiently fenced and maintained in decent order. If in any particular case it is represented to the Department that attention is required, the circumstances will be duly brought to the notice of the Local Authority concerned.
