Vol. 33 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Saorstát Citizenship Qualification.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he will state when it is intended to introduce proposals for legislation to provide an opportunity for other nationals to adopt Saorstát citizenship.

An International Conference at which this State is represented is now sitting at the Hague and is endeavouring, amongst other matters, to arrive at an international agreement dealing with the acquisition of national status in the various countries represented thereat so as to avoid, as far as possible, such problems as that of the person with no nationality or with several nationalities.

The Minister does not propose to introduce legislation on the subject of Irish Free State citizenship, to one aspect of which the Deputy's question refers, until this Conference has issued its report.
