Vol. 33 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Payments to Road Fund.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Irish Free State share of the balance at 31st March, 1922, of the Road Fund of the late United Kingdom has yet been finally determined; and, if not, to state the reason for the delay; and, further, to state the amount received to date by the Free State Treasury under this head, and if any additional payments are anticipated in the present financial year.

The Saorstát share of the balance at 31st March, 1922, of the Road Fund of the late United Kingdom has not yet been finally determined. The delay in arriving at a determination of the Saorstát share has been due to the fact that resort has had to be had to arbitration, prolonged negotiations with the British authorities for an agreed settlement having broken down. The sum of £200,000 has already been received on account of the Saorstát share, but no additional payments are anticipated in the current financial year.

Will the Minister say by whom the arbitration proceedings mentioned are being conducted?

Sir Henry Strakosch.
