Vol. 33 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition and Division of Waterford Lands.

Seán Ua Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state how many acres of land have been acquired in the neighbourhood of Dungarvan, County Waterford, for division amongst uneconomic holders; and what number of acres has been so apportioned.

The Land Commission have acquired and allotted under the Land Act, 1923, an area of 222 acres of land in the townlands of Duckspool, Tournore and Ballynalshessery South in the neighbourhood of Dungarvan. They have also completed arrangements for the acquisition of some 60 acres and a scheme for the division of these lands is in course of preparation. Practically all the lands which have been acquired have been distributed amongst evicted tenants and uneconomic holders.

If I mistake not, it was stated five years ago that over 1,000 acres were to be acquired in this area. I understand that a definite reply was given to that effect in this House.

That may be, but I am giving the amount of land acquired under the Land Act of 1923.
