Vol. 34 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Town Tenants Commission.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of his repeated promises to the House to introduce proposals for legislation giving effect to the recommendations of the Town Tenants Commission, he can now inform the House upon what date the Bill will be introduced.

I am not in a position to state the exact date upon which the Town Tenants Bill will be introduced.

Mr. Byrne

Will it be introduced before the Easter Recess?

I cannot give the Deputy any definite information.

Mr. Byrne

Did the Minister not make a promise on the last occasion?

I cannot give the Deputy any definite information.

May we take it from the Minister that if the Bill is not passed before June he will take steps to continue the existing Rent Restrictions Act?

Does the Minister not think that legislation of this kind is more important than that dealing with wild birds?

I will allow the Deputy to draw that conclusion but I fancy he rather thinks that wild birds are more important.
