Vol. 34 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Tipperary Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if it is intended to take over the Going Estate, Ballyphilip, County Tipperary, which is now in the possession of Mrs. Hughes, who also owns a large farm in the County Wicklow; if he is aware that there is not one acre of the Ballyphilip Estate under tillage at present; and if so, if he will state when the Land Commission intends to take over this estate for distribution amongst the small holders of the district and to relieve the distress that prevails at present in the locality.

The Land Commission acquired from Mr. E.A. Hughes some 190 acres of the lands of Ballyphilip, Earlshill and Killeheen, which have been divided. The circumstances of the remaining lands of the owner have been fully considered by them in court, and having heard counsel on behalf of the objector, Mr. Hughes, and the evidence produced, judgment was given allowing the objection. Since then Mr. Hughes has died, and in the altered circumstances the matter is being further considered.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary see that an inspector is sent down?
