Vol. 34 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Interest on Agricultural Loans.

asked the Minister for Finance whether in view of the recent reduction in Irish bank rate he has taken any steps to reduce the rate of interest for loans from the Irish Agricultural Credit Corporation.

I understand that the rate of interest charged on advances by the Agricultural Credit Corporation is fixed with reference to the rates of interest payable on long term gilt-edged and other high-class securities and not with reference to the current bank rate for short term loans or advances. In the circumstances, the recent alterations in the short term bank rate does not constitute any reason for varying the rate of interest charged by the Corporation.
