Vol. 35 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Estates in Co. Kerry.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state how many estates in County Kerry purchased prior to 1923 are still unvested; and how many estates in County Kerry purchased through the Land Act, 1923 have been vested in the tenants.

In eight estates in County Kerry which were purchased by the Estates Commissioners or the Congested Districts Board prior to 1923 the resale proceedings have not yet reached the stage of the holdings being vested in the tenants. In a number of other such estates, whilst most of the holdings have been vested, residues which present unusual difficulty remain to be vested. Many of the estates purchased by the Congested Districts Board were held in rundale and the process of rearranging holdings and obtaining the tenants' consent thereto as well as providing additional land for enlargement where required is necessarily long and difficult. Every effort is being made to complete the resale of these estates as soon as possible, and resale schemes have been prepared for practically all the estates situate in County Kerry.

As regards tenanted land in County Kerry coming under the purchase provisions of the Land Act, 1923, 24 estates have already been vested.
