Vol. 36 No. 1

Public Business. - Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 1930—First Stage.

I ask for leave to introduce a "Bill entitled an Act to amend the Tariff Commission Act, 1926, by conferring on the Executive Council power to refer to the Tariff Commission matters and questions relating to customs duties and by requiring all reports of that Commission to be made to the Executive Council, and also to make provision for the completion of the matters which were pending before the members of the Tariff Commission who have lately resigned their membership thereof."

Leave to introduce granted.

When will the Second Stage be taken?

Does the Minister think that Deputies are going to stay up all night on Friday to consider these Bills?

As was stated in reference to the previous Bill, if objection is taken on Friday we shall not question it.

Could we have an explanation why Bills, the First Stage of which was taken to-day, can be circulated before Friday, whereas Bills the First Stage of which was taken five months ago have not been circulated yet?

The Bills introduced to-day are short Bills; the others are long Bills.

Second Stage to be taken on Friday.
