Vol. 36 No. 1

Written Answers. - Importation of Russian Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the fact that Russian oats are being imported into the Irish Free State and sold at prices which it is impossible for the home producer to compete with, and to ask what steps, if any, he intends to take to alter this state of affairs.

Mr. Hogan

I am aware that about 10,750 barrels of oats from Russia were discharged at Dublin on the 14th and 16th October; that two small consignments, amounting to about 1,500 barrels, reached the Saorstát since the latter date; and that a further consignment of about 18,500 barrels has arrived in Dublin in the past few days. The Russian oats imported in October, I am informed, are being sold in Dublin at 11s. to 11s. 6d. per barrel. At this price they are not under-selling home-grown oats, which are quoted in Dublin at 10s. to 11s. 6d. per barrel.
