Vol. 36 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trustee Savings Banks Assets.

asked the Minister for Finance if he has had under review the position of Trustee Savings Banks in the Saorstát, with particular reference to the fact that the assets of such banks held by the British National Debt Commissioners are invested entirely in British Government securities, and that interest is allowed only at the rate of £2 17s. 6d. per cent. per annum on payments made by the banks to the said Commissioners, and if it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislative proposals with regard to these banks in the present Session of the Dáil.

The position of the Trustee Savings Banks in the Saorstát is at present under review having regard to the anomalies associated with the investment of their funds and their supervision. It is hoped to introduce legislative proposals with regard to these banks before the Summer recess.
