Vol. 36 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Springfield Farm (Tipperary).

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that the late owner of Springfield Farm, near Tipperary town (Miss O'Dwyer), communicated with the Irish Land Commission with a view to the division of these lands (about 130 acres); whether the Irish Land Commission sent inspectors to inspect the lands, with a view to division, and what was the report of the inspectors thereon; whether he is aware that these lands are practically surrounded by uneconomic holders; and whether, in view of these facts, he will have the whole matter reopened with a view to the acquisition of these lands among the people who cannot get land elsewhere.

Miss Winifred Dwyer, the tenant of the Springfield Farm, which is pending for sale under the Land Act, 1923, applied to the Land Commission for permission to subdivide the holding, and whilst this application was under consideration, sold her interest in the entire holding to Mr. William McCarthy, of Carrca House, Tipperary. The Land Commission, having fully investigated all the circumstances of the case, decided to resell the holding to Mr. McCarthy, and do not propose to reopen the matter.
