Vol. 36 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Bomb Explosion Outside Barracks.

asked the Minister for Justice if on Sunday, 16th instant, a bomb of some description was exploded outside the Gárda Síochána Barracks at Glengarriff; whether he had an inquiry made into the matter; and, if so, with what result.

The outrage to which the Deputy refers did occur. The Gárda Síochána are investigating the occurrence.

Is the Minister aware there is a strong local opinion that it was a member of the Gárda Síochána who was responsible for the outrage, and several members of the Guards have made statements to that effect to people resident in the town?

I know there are people who are willing to invent any sort of preposterous lies about the Guards.

Is the Minister aware that statements of the kind I have indicated have been made?

I am not, and I do not believe them.

Would it not be better if the Deputies who represent the areas concerned raised this question?

Is the Deputy also trying to suppress information concerning these occurrences?

No, but I think the Deputy should have sufficient confidence in Deputy Gorry or Deputy Boland to leave this matter to them.
