Vol. 36 No. 7

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion in Co. Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware of the amount of congestion that exists in Ballahaduff, Kilkerrin, Co. Galway; and, if so, will he state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission to remedy it.

The Deputy appears to refer to lands on the Norris Estate, which were purchased by the late Congested Districts Board. The tenanted portion of this estate has already been rearranged as far as possible, but owing to the tenants preventing the lockspitting of the untenanted portion thereof, consisting of turbary and cutaway, the Land Commission have not been in the position to complete the resale of the estate.

I am not exactly referring to what the Parliamentary Secretary stated. I am referring to a farm known as Fiddane Acres and Highfield. These people are living up against it. They have made several applications already, and they have received no communication whatever.

The Deputy has been given the information he asked for in the question. If he is referring to another estate he must put down another question.

I have asked if anything has been done by the Land Commission to remedy congestion and your answer is no.

Is the Deputy referring to the balance of land still to be divided on the Norris Estate?

I am not. I have asked you a question, but you are not making any attempt to answer as far as I can see. The question is: "To ask the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware of the amount of congestion that exists in Ballaghduff, Kilkerrin, Co. Galway; and if so, will he state what steps have been taken by the Land Commission to remedy it." I am not talking of Norris's farm or any other farm.

The Land Commission have already distributed a good area of land in that district. I am not aware of any other estate with which we are pealing in that area at present, or if there is any other estate that we can acquire.

Will you state what steps are being taken at the moment?

I think you stated a moment ago that steps were being taken.
