Vol. 36 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation in Kerry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether it is the intention of the Department to acquire lands in County Kerry for the purpose of planting forest trees; if there are thousands of acres of waste mountain and moor fit for planting; if the Department had negotiations with any owners of lands for the purpose of acquiring and planting.

If the opportunity of acquiring suitable areas in County Kerry for forestry purposes presents itself, the Department will give the matter the fullest consideration. Several offers of land for the purpose have been made by owners in that county, but so far none of the lands offered have been regarded as suitable for the purpose of State afforestation. The answer to the concluding portion of the question is in the affirmative.
