Vol. 36 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vaughan Estate, Roscrea.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is now in a position to state the Land Commission's intentions as regards the Vaughan Estate, Goldengrove, Roscrea.

The Land Commission have had inquiry made regarding the Vaughan Estate at Goldengrove, and have decided to take no action regarding it.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the owners of this estate are not working it themselves? The estate has been let on the eleven months' system and is being grazed by a number of cattle dealers. It is common knowledge locally that this firm of cattle dealers who are large ranchers have offered to purchase it privately.

These are demesne lands, and consequently the owner is entitled to have them excluded under the Act of 1923. In addition, they are subject to a land annuity. According to the latest information which I have the owner is giving a reasonable amount of employment and there is no congestion.

He is giving no employment whatever.

My information is to the contrary.

The information is wrong.
