Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Housing.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state, in connection with the Gaeltacht Housing Act, (a) the number of applications received for assistance by way of grant or loan; (b) the number in which inspection has been made; (c) the number in which grants or loans under the Act have been sanctioned, and the total amount of money so earmarked; (d) the number of cases in which the work of building has actually commenced, and (e) the amount of money paid out under the Act up to the present by way of grants or loans for the erection of houses and outbuildings.

The number of applications for assistance under the Housing (Gaeltacht) Act, 1929, received up to 31st January was 11,520.

The number of applications in which inspections were made was 1,508, the number of applications sanctioned 369, earmarking a total sum of £34,260 10s. 0d. It is not possible to state the number of cases in which the building operations have been actually begun, but in 76 cases sufficient progress has been made to qualify for instalments of the grants and the amount so paid out is £2,069.
