Vol. 37 No. 6

Vote No. 46—Primary Education.

I move:

"Go ndeontar suim bhreise ná raghaidh thar £14,800 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1931, chun Deontaisí Bun-Oideachais, maraon le Deontaisí i gCabhair do Chiste Phinsin na Múinteoirí.

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £14,800 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1931, for the Expenses of Primary Education, including Grants-in-Aid to the Teachers' Pension Fund."

This Supplementary Estimate is mainly required to pay the salaries of principals and assistants in ordinary schools, model schools, etc., also. The additional sum necessary for this purpose is estimated at £20,000, but there are savings estimated at £6,000. The £20,000 is made up as follows: Viceprincipals and assistant teachers, £6,800; salaries of junior assistant mistresses, £3,000; schools paid on a capitation basis—convent schools, £5,000; monastery schools, £6,000. In this latter case it was impossible to estimate the number of pupils that would attend, and on that account there was an under-estimation for schools paid on a capitation basis of £11,000.

Vote put and agreed to.
