Vol. 37 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Corporation and Unemployment Grant.

Seán Ua Guilidhe

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if any sum out of the unemployment grant has been allotted to Waterford Corporation; and, if so, has the nature of the work on which the money has to be spent been indicated.

A Relief Grant of £1,500 has been allocated to the Waterford Corporation as a contribution towards carrying out certain specified works—development of housing sites, making and laying of concrete flags, improvement of water supply and providing sanitary arrangements for Corporation houses.

Is the Minister aware that this work apparently has not been undertaken? There are complaints that the unemployed there have not received any benefit from it.

As far as my Department is concerned it has urged on all local bodies benefiting under the Relief Grant the desirability of carrying out these works at the earliest possible moment.
