Vol. 38 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Resumption of Holdings in County Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will state if James Dwyer, of Lowertown, Woodford (Lewis Estate), Co. Galway, has been reinstated in the holding from which his mother was evicted in 1899, being holding No. 57, Record No. S. 1990; and, if not, whether he will state the reason why.

The Land Commission, having made arrangements for the resumption of the holding of Mr. W. J. Farren, No. 57, on the Lewis Estate, Co. Galway, favourably considered the claim of Mr. James Dwyer and communicated to him through their local inspector the terms on which they would be prepared to allot the lands to him, subject to certain reservations, as to turbary thereon. Mr. Dwyer definitely refused the terms offered, and the Land Commission are withdrawing from the resumption proceedings.

I understand that the old rack rent was £5 14s., and the annuity fixed after inspection was £2 19s. 6d. The Land Commission gave Dwyer the option of signing for this at a rent of £9 0s. 6d. I would like to know how the difference came in.

That is a different matter altogether.

Could you say how Mr. Farren got possession of this holding?

That is a different question.

It is all the one.
