Vol. 40 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dundrum (Tipperary) O.A.P. Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state on what grounds he refused to sanction the old age pension in the cases of Mr. Patrick Ahearne and Julia Ahearne, Coolbaun, Dundrum, Co. Tipperary, which was granted to them by the unanimous decision of the Tipperary Old Age Pensions Sub-Committee; if he is aware that those two old people are already a burden on the ratepayers; if he is also aware that in reply to inquiries made by the Pension Officer the claimants' landlord informed him that they were residing at the above address and were also paying rent.

Appeals are now before me for adjudication against decisions given by the Cashel (not Tipperary) Pensions Sub-Committee on 25th September, 1931, proposing to allow a pension of ten shillings a week in each of these cases. It is not suggested in the evidence so far furnished that either claimant is receiving relief from the rates. The reply to the concluding portion of the question is in the affirmative. Further inquiries are being made. Decisions on the appeals will be given in due course.
