Vol. 40 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage by Seals in Wexford Bay South.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that owing to the presence of seals in large numbers in Wexford Bay South, the fishermen are finding it very difficult to use it as a fishing ground.

I have no information that the presence of seals in Wexford Bay South is causing any serious inconvenience to the fishing in the bay.

If evidence is forthcoming to that effect is the Minister prepared to take any action?

That is a very hypothetical question.

There is nothing hypothetical about these seals being there.

Well, I have had no information about it. If they are there the same steps will be taken as have been taken elsewhere—that is we recommend the fishermen to the Gárda for permits.
