Vol. 40 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection Against English Trawlers in Wexford.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he has received any complaints from Wexford fishermen to the effect that English trawlers have been operating in Wexford Bay North every night during the past three weeks; if he is aware that their presence is preventing the herring fishermen from earning their livelihood, and will he say what action he proposes to take to protect their interests.

I have received complaints of steam trawling in the Wexford area, and the patrol ship is giving the area special attention.

Would the Minister say when he expects the patrol ship there?

It has been there within the last three weeks.

It has not been there since Saturday at least.

Is it a submarine?
