Vol. 40 No. 22

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - A Loughrea Congest.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state why no increase of land has been given to a congest named Francis Tierney, Curhoor, Killeenadeema, Loughrea (Coll. No. 84/4261, Galway), and whether it is intended to give him an economic holding.

Francis Tierney is the occupier of a holding comprising 1 road and 2 perches and an undivided 1/15th share of 225a. 2r. 1p. of the lands of Killeenadeema West subject to a Land Purchase Annuity of 5s. 10d. per annum. He has failed to pay the annuity, there being now 30 half-yearly instalments due. Having regard to his failure to pay, he has not been considered a suitable person to be provided with additional land.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that, fourteen years ago, this man made application, that 2,000 acres were divided in the neighbourhood, that his application was not considered and that he went on strike in consequence of not getting an extension? I know that he has broken the rule and put himself more or less out of court, but I would ask the Parliamentary Secretary to take these facts into consideration.

His application cannot be considered until he wipes out the arrears.
