Vol. 41 No. 2

Vote 22—Printing and Stationery.

I move:—

Go ndeontar suim bhreise ná raghaidh thar £10 chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1932, chun costais soláthair Pháipéarachais, Clódóireachta, Páipéir, Greamuíochta agus Leabhra Clóbhuailte i gcóir na Seirbhíse Puiblí; chun Tuarastail agus Costaisí Oifig an tSoláthair d'ioc; agus chun Ilsheirbhísí Ilghnéitheacha maraon le Tuairiscí Díospóireachtaí an Oireachtais.

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1932, for the expense of providing Stationery, Printing, Paper, Binding, and Printed Books for the Public Service; to pay the Salaries and Expenses of the Stationery Office; and for Sundry Miscellaneous Services, including Reports of Oireachtas Debates.

The purpose of this part of the Supplementary Estimate is to defray the cost of publishing a volume illustrative of early Christian art in Ireland. This work is being done by the Ordnance Survey Department, and the expense is being borne on the Stationery Vote. It is proposed to print an edition of 2,000 copies. The cost, which includes the paper, printing colour-type, and the binding, is tentatively estimated at about £900. It happens, however, that the full edition will not be printed this year, and the cost of that additional part which will be published within the coming financial year is only £670. Under another sub-head, GG (3), it was proposed to provide £300, being the cost of completing and printing a publication of 2,000 bound copies of the late Canon O'Leary's translation of the New Testament. This money will be expended by way of an advance to the Rev. Father Fleming, P.P., Rathmines, who is Canon O'Leary's literary executor. Up to the present Father Fleming has borne £1,200 of the cost. The additional grant is to enable him to complete the publication. He found that his own private resources are no longer able to bear the expense.

Vote agreed to.
