Vol. 41 No. 5

In Committee on Finance. - Dairy Produce (Price Stabilisation) Bill, 1932.—First Stage.

I move for leave to introduce "a Bill entitled an Act to promote the stabilisation of the price of butter and certain other milk products, and for that purpose to provide for the payment of a bounty on exported butter and certain other milk products, for the imposing of a levy on certain classes of butter, for restricting the exportation of butter and the importation of milk and of butter and certain other milk products, and to make provision for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid?"

When does the Minister want the Second Reading?

This day week.

No; there is an objection taken now. We will not permit the First Reading to be taken now, unless a later day than this day week is fixed for the Second Reading.

What date would the Deputy suggest?

The following Wednesday.

That is the Budget day.

Well, the following Thursday or Friday. The Minister understands that no more complicated measure than this has ever been presented to the House.

That is a very extravagant statement, I think.

I do not believe that any single member of the Executive Council, other than the Minister, understands the Bill.

Of course not.

Deputy Cosgrave told us yesterday that he understood the Bill six months ago.

The fact that the Minister were not there yesterday is proof of it. Put it down for Thursday week.

Say Wednesday week, after the Budget.

Very good; it is really a Budget Bill.

Leave to introduce granted.

Second Reading ordered for Wednesday, 4th May.

The Dáil adjourned at 2 p.m. until Wednesday, 27th April, at 3 p.m.
