Vol. 41 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Widows' Pensions Committee.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if any instruction had been issued to the Committee set up to inquire and report on a Widows' Pensions Scheme to present their report in a limited time and, if so, if so, if he will state the duration of that period.

It would not be practicable at this stage to place an arbitrary limit on the time which the Committee will find necessary for the actuarial and other investigations which will arise in the course of their inquiry. The Deputy may be assured that there will be no avoidable delay.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary state if the scope of the inquiry is to be confined to the widows of insured persons or is it to be extended to all widows in the Saorstát?

The scope of the inquiry will be extended to all widows in the Saorstát regardless of whether they belong to the insurable population or not.

Mr. Murphy

The Parliamentary Secretary spoke of actuarial and other investigations to be made. Were not such actuarial investigations made some time ago and has he not the result of these investigations available?

All the information which has already been accumulated in the Department in the way of actuarial investigation will be at the disposal of the Committee.

Is it not a fact that this matter has been the subject of inquiry by the previous Minister for Finance for at least a period of three years?
