Vol. 41 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Trawlers on East Coast.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he is aware that foreign trawlers are encroaching within the three-mile limit in Arklow Bay and off the coast of Counties Wicklow and Wexford; and whether he will state what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

I have received no reports or information of any such encroachments by foreign trawlers as suggested, and I am making further inquiries in the matter.

Is the Minister prepared to agree with his predecessor's statement in this matter, and might I ask if he will take steps to provide extra boats for the protection of the fishermen against foreign trawlers?

That is a matter that is under consideration by my Department.
