Vol. 42 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Brick and Cashen Drainage Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if the report of the engineers who went down to investigate the Brick and Cashen Drainage Schemes, County Kerry, has been submitted to him, and, if so, if it is intended to negotiate with the Kerry County Council with a view to having the schemes carried into effect as soon as possible, and thereby provide the workless people of those districts with much-needed employment.

The Commissioners of Public Works have not yet received the final report of their engineer with regard to the Brick-Cashen proposed Drainage District. In addition to the engineering survey, a detailed valuation of the affected lands has been in progress for some time, and the results must be awaited before the financial position of the scheme can be definitely known. Over 12,000 acres of land have to be inspected and valued, so that even under the most favourable conditions the detailed investigation of the proposal cannot be completed for several months. When it is completed, there will be no undue delay in preparing a drainage scheme for the district, if it is found feasible.
