Vol. 42 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether the larger housing grants forecasted in his statement will operate retrospectively in favour of private individuals as in the case of local authorities, and will they apply to reconstructions or only to new houses.

I would refer the Deputy to the observations on this matter contained in my statement of 25th ultimo, that is to say:

It is the intention to apply the new scale of grants for persons and public utility societies so that houses commenced on or after the 12th May, 1932, may qualify for them. Grants at the rate of £45 per house will be made available for persons who failed to complete houses in time under the Housing Acts, 1929 and 1930, and for persons who began houses under the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1931, before the 12th instant.

Grants for reconstruction will be available only as regards works commenced on or after 12th ultimo, and in respect of which my approval to the reconstruction has been obtained before the work is begun.
