Vol. 42 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farms affected by Coast Erosion.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he contemplates introducing proposals for legislation dealing with farms affected by coast erosion to which the provisions of the Land Purchase Acts 1923 and 1927, apply and which at present are subject to the payment of an annuity upon the former gross rental, and if in view of the likelihood of these farms ceasing to be economic long before the period for repayment expires, he will provide for an annuity based upon the decreasing value of the land.

The Government are aware of the losses arising from coast erosion generally. I cannot, however, promise early legislation as regards the erosion of holdings subject to the Land Purchase Acts.
