Vol. 42 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Bandon.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the unemployment existing in Bandon, Co. Cork, has been seriously accentuated by the closing of practically the last industry in the town and if he will specially consider the grave position existing in the town and immediate surroundings in the allocation of the Relief and Road Grants.

I understand that the industrial position in Bandon is being considered by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, who is making a statement on the matter in reply to two questions on the Order Paper to-day. The necessity for special provision out of Relief Grants for public works in Bandon has not so far been brought to my notice by the local authorities concerned, but the needs of the Bandon area will certainly be considered in connection with the distribution of any grants to be allocated towards relief works in Cork County.
