Vol. 42 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fisheries Bill.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state when he proposes to proceed with the new Fisheries Bill and if it will contain provisions enabling fishery officials to arrest poaching trawlers wherever they may be domiciled.

A Bill for giving powers to protect more adequately the exclusive fisheries of the Saorstát is in the hands of the Attorney-General.

Can the Minister give us any approximate date as to when the Bill will be introduced, in view of the undertaking given by the President at the beginning of this Session?

The Bill will be introduced as soon as possible, but I do not see how it could be introduced in this Session.

Is the Minister aware that that Bill has been on the way of introduction for nearly two years and that the fishermen are being allowed to starve while Parliamentary draftsmen and successive Attorneys-General are hatching it?

I am not aware of that.
