Vol. 42 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Construction in Co. Cork.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that roads at Ballybane, Ballydehob, Co. Cork, and Behaugh, Dunmanway, Co. Cork, started by the Land Commission still remain unfinished; and if he will have the works listed for early completion.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he has received local representations in favour of the construction of a road to accommodate a large number of small holders at Kealties, Durrus, Bantry, Co. Cork, and if he will have the proposal listed for consideration under that portion of the Relief Grants available to the Land Commission.

I will take the Deputy's two questions together.

The work done on the roads at Ballybane and Behaugh five years ago consisted of the repair and widening of portions of old roads serving a number of tenants. The work was done out of moneys then available for the relief of unemployment and not out of Land Commission funds.

The Land Commission have received local representations regarding the need for the construction of a road at Kealties, Durrus, out of relief funds.

I suggest that the Deputy should wait an announcement as to the Department which will deal with the funds now being provided for relief of unemployment and address applications to the appropriate quarter.
