Vol. 43 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Sweepstakes Grants in Tipperary.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) what schemes, if any, have been submitted by the Boards of Health of Tipperary N.R. and Tipperary S.R. in respect of which grants are to be made available out of the moneys obtained from the Hospitals Sweeps, (b) whether any such schemes have been sanctioned and what amounts are to be made available in each case.

With regard to the first part of the question, the following proposals have been submitted involving proposed expenditure estimated at the amounts indicated:

1. Tipperary, North Riding:

(1) Nenagh Hospitals (Improvements) £5,400; (Equipment) £2,600. (2) Roscrea Hospital (Improvements) £2,810; (Equipment) £1,115. (3) Thurles Hospital (Improvements) £5,387; (Equipment) £800. Total £18,112.

2. Tipperary, South Riding:

(1) Tipperary Hospital (Improvements) £10,000; (2) Clonmel (New Hospital) £10,000; (3) Clougheen Hospital (Improvements) £3,000; Total £23,000.

With regard to the second part of the question, the schemes submitted are being examined in the Department but before sanction is given further time will be required to enable the Minister's technical advisers to have a full investigation of local requirements.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary give any indication of the amount of time that will be required before a decision is come to on the matter?

I think the Deputy can take it that the necessary enquiries will be concluded within the next few weeks.
