Vol. 45 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cement Manufacture Monopoly.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if several offers had been received by his Department for the production on a monopoly basis and in one factory of approximately 250,000 tons of cement per annum from raw materials raised in the Saorstát; what was the lowest capital cost estimated as required for such a factory: what was the lowest price per ton quoted exworks for such cement; what was the proportionate division of this as between (a) cost of production and (b) extra charge to cover all general overheads and profits; what was the lowest price per ton estimated for such cement when distributed at the principal centres of consumption; and at the time such estimates were made what was the price per ton delivered at the principal Saorstát ports of (a) Belgian cement equal to British standard specification and (b) British Portland cement.

I do not feel justified in disclosing particulars of the various proposals submitted to my Department in connection with projects for the manufacture of cement.
