Vol. 45 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Costs affected by Cement Prices.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what approximately are the all-in costs of the different types of houses to which Section 5 (1) of the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1932, applies, and what percentage addition to such costs would be necessitated if the price of cement were increased by 4/-, 6/-, 8/-and 12/- per ton.

It is estimated that the average all-in cost of the houses to which Section 5 (1) of the Act mainly applies, viz., houses built by private persons and public utility societies, would be approximately £450, regard being had to the numbers of houses provided in both rural and urban areas. The percentage of a nearly all-concrete house at prevailing prices of cement is approximately 5.5. An increase in the price of cement by 4/- per ton would involve a 0.5 per cent. increase in the all-in costs.
