Vol. 45 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employers' Returns.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, having regard to the numerous forms now sent out asking for returns from employers, he will in future see that these forms are furnished in duplicate so as to enable a copy to be retained for reference.

I am quite prepared to facilitate employers by arranging that, where requested, my Department will in future send in duplicate all forms asking for returns from employers.

Why should they have to ask for duplicate forms? Would it not be in the ordinary course of business procedure to send out duplicate forms? Why should they have to make an application for a duplicate each time they get a form?

I have no evidence of any general demand on behalf of employers for furnishing these forms in duplicate and I presume that employers who desire to have them in duplicate will not mind asking the Department to have them sent in duplicate in their particular cases.

What I wish to convey is that it is obvious to the Minister that no firms send in a return without having to make out a form somewhat similar to the form with which they have been furnished by the Department for the purpose of filing it in their offices. I think that in view of the cost, which is really microscopic, the Minister ought to decide to send out those forms in duplicate.
