Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Grass Mowers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the number of licences authorising the importation without payment of the duty on grass mowers, wheelrakes and swathe turners under Section 2 of the Finance (Customs Duties) (No. 2) Act, 1932, which have been issued since the 1st April last to the latest available date; (b) the quantity of the article or commodity permitted to be imported under such licences; and (c) the number, if any, of applications for such licences which have been refused and the reason for refusal in each case.

(a) The number of licences authorising the importation without payment of duty of grass mowers, wheelrakes and swathe turners, during the period 1st April, 1932, to date, is as follows:—Grass mowers, 1: wheelrakes, nil; swathe turners, 4; (b) the quantities of machines imported under such licences were:—12 grass mowers, 110 swathe turners; (c) eighteen applications for licences were refused for the reason that sufficient stocks of the machines in respect of which the application for a licence was made were available in Saorstát Eireann.
