Vol. 46 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensions For Widows and Orphans.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is in a position to state what progress has been made by the Commission set up to inquire into the payment of pensions to widows and orphans.

The Committee of Inquiry into Widows' and Orphans' Pensions is at present engaged in the preparation of their Report which, I understand, will be submitted as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state when the Report of the Committee constituted to inquire into the question of pensions for widows and orphans will be available, and if he can indicate when the necessary proposals for legislation to provide the widows' and orphans' pensions scheme will be introduced.

With regard to the first part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to the answer which I have given to Deputy Corish. With regard to the second part, until the Report of the Committee is received and considered it would be premature to make a statement regarding proposals for legislation.
