Vol. 46 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Central Sorting Station.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is yet in a position to state when the work of erecting a new Central Sorting and Delivery Office for Dublin will be undertaken.

Good progress is being made with the preparation of the scheme but it is not yet possible to state when the actual work of erection will be undertaken. Every possible effort is being made, but as the Deputy is aware, it is a work of considerable magnitude.

Will the Minister take into consideration the fact that a disused distillery has been in occupation as a central sorting and distributing office in Dublin for 11 years and that it is utterly unsuitable for the purpose, having been passed over by a variety of firms during the long period it was vacant? In view of its unsuitability, and the fact that there is a considerable amount of unemployment in the building trade in Dublin, will he see if it is possible to have the construction of the new building taken in hands during the year?

Mr. Boland

I will do all I can in that respect.
